Social Protection Specialist at the World Bank Asha Williams says the bank has been able to complete a very comprehensive assessment of the social protection programs on the island of Dominica to see how connected the country is to the objectives of disaster risk reduction and responses after disaster.
Ms. Williams was speaking at the Adaptive Social Protection Training at the Office of Disaster Management last week.
Ms. Williams said given the increasing frequency and impact of natural disasters in Dominica, there is an urgency to ensure that adequate Social Protection and Labour (SPL) market response mechanisms are in place to decrease vulnerability prior to, during and after natural disasters occur.
