Vegetable Production Slowly Returning To Pre-Maria Levels
Director of Agriculture Ricky Brumant says the Ministry has successfully increased vegetable production since hurricane Maria impacted the sector.
Brumant says over 100 acres of vegetables had been planted by December 2018, among other gains.
“We embarked on a project to establish 300 acres of vegetable and to date we have done over 60% of that.”
He continued that the ministry and the farmers alike are doing agressive work to restore the agriculture sector to what is was before Hurricane Maria.
Information confirmed that based on data before Hurricane Maria, there were 207 greenhouses and during the passage majority were damaged. Currently about 25% of those greenhouses have been replaced and materials have been given to farmers to restore their greenhouses.
