UWP Demands Dominica Revoke Diplomatic Relations With Syrian Government

The Opposition United Workers Party is demanding the immediate revocation of diplomatic relations with the Syrian Arab Republic, following Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit’s statement regarding the suspension of diplomatic ties with the embattled nation.

Earlier this month, outgoing UN Ambassador H.E. Loreen Bannis-Roberts signed an agreement establishing diplomatic relations with Syria which the UWP describes as an objectionable decision which has exposed Dominica to the contempt and ridicule of the civilized world.

Opposition Leader Lennox Linton does not believe Roberts actions were a “lapse in judgment” as described by prime minister Skerrit but a willful violation of established government policy.

The opposition leader says Diplomatic Relations with Syria pose a threat to Dominica’s Citizenship by Investment (CBI) Program which provides potential economic benefits to the island.

Linton states, the Opposition UWP demands not only the explicit revocation of diplomatic ties with Syria but also an end to corrupt management of the CBI program and a public apology to the people of Dominica.
