UWP calls for Increased Protection for Victims of Domestic Violence in Dominica
The violent deaths of two women at the hands of their significant others in the last few days have left many shaken.
Avonelle Charles (Right) and Medical Student Dr. Velma Valmond (Left) were both victims of domestic violence which resulted in their untimely deaths.
In light of this, the United Workers Party has come forward to condemn these vicious actions and sounds the call for an increase in protection for victims of Domestic Violence in Dominica.
Leader of the UWP Dr. Thomson Fontaine says, the deaths of Dr. Valmond and Ms. Charles along with the deaths of those who have suffered a similar fate in the past should not be allowed to go in vain.
Dr. Fontaine went on to call on the government to review and strengthen existing laws to offer added protection from violence to our women and girls.
