UNDP Strengthening Sustainable Livelihoods and Resilience in the Kalinago Territory

A project slated to bring much needed assistance to the Kalinago Territory was launched on Thursday morning.

The Ministry of Environment, Rural Mordernization and Kalinago Upliftment launched the Strengthening Sustainable Livelihoods and Resilience in the Kalinago Territory Project (SSLR).

The project is funded by the government of India through the UNDP in the amount of US$1million.

Head of the UNDP Dominica Project Office is Luis Francis Thais.

The Ministry of Blue and Green Economy, Agriculture and National Food security, the ministry of Tourism international Transport and Maritime Initiatives are also partners in the implementation of the project.

The project will focus on four main areas; Agricultural development, tourism branding, reforestation of water catchments and indigenous trees and institutional capacity support to the Kalinago council.

Minister for Environment Rural Mordernization and Kalinago Upliftment Cozier Frederick expressed thanks to the UNDP for selecting the Kalinago territory to implement the project.  He says the project reflects the strength and resilience of the Kalinago people.
