Troubling Statistics In Reported Cases Of Violence Against Women

The Bureau of Gender Affairs has been strengthening its response to violence against women and girls, as 86 percent of reported cases of gender-based violence continues to be women and girls.

Sixteen days of activism continues to raise public awareness of violence against women, following the observance of International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on November 25th.

Acting Director of the Bureau of Gender Affairs Melissa Morgan says engaging a social worker is among actions taken to strengthen the department response to increased abuse cases of women.

Meantime, Minister for Gender Affairs Dr. Adis King describes the statistics in Dominica as sobering.

The pandemic’s impact can also create incidence of violence against women.
