DLP Roseau Central Candidate donates vessels to Roseau Fishermen

Dominica Labour Party Candidate for the Roseau Central Constituency Melissa Poponne-Skerrit joined efforts with Hotel Developer Ian Edwardson Friday, to donate three (3) fishing vessels and engines to fishermen of the Roseau area.

Mrs. Skerrit said the boats are meant to bring relief to fishermen who lost their vessels during Hurricane Maria, saying that the people’s concerns pushed her to partner with Ian George, Proprietor of Tranquility Beach Resort in Salisbury Dominica.

“Another five star hotel is looking to partner with ou local fishermen to provide fresh for the tourists,” Mrs. Skerrit said.

She highlighted emergency packages which were included in the donation, in an effort to ensure safety at sea.

Mrs. Skerrit said among the objectives is the creation of more economic activity for Dominica, saying “We are ensuring our food security, providing sustainable jobs, and fostering a greater return to our economy. It is important to note that the Government… will continue to maintain this relationship.”

The Fishermen were advised to take advantage of the partnership with Tranquility Resort and other upcoming hotels, and were asked to double their efforts to meet coming demands.
