Prime Minister Appeals for Peace In Light of Upcoming Elections

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has appealed for peace and a spirit of calm in Dominica ahead of general elections here on Friday.

Mr. Skerrit’s call came in a national address on Monday night following protest action in Marigot earlier in the day when residents blocked the main road and set fire to debris.

He said he had called off his party’s activities on Monday night in the interest of supporters’ safety.

He implored residents “do nothing which could harm your fellow citizens ro tarnish your country’s good name” in light of Dominica’s upcoming elections. The Prime Minister believes that “…we have come too far as a country to let a reckless few turn us back now”.

Mr. Skerrit has reassured citizens that security force will maintain order.
