PM Skerrit condemns election petitions filed by UWP

Posted on January 13, 2020

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has condemned the election petitions filed by the United Workers Party challenging the results of the December 6, 2019 general elections.

The UWP is challenging the results in 10 constituencies after an 18-3 defeat to Skerrit’s Dominica Labour Party.

Mr. Skerrit says the case will prove costly and distract from the national development agenda.

Mr. Skerrit argues further that the decision to file the petitions is laughable.

If frivolous and vexatious petitions are filed and lost the petitioners should be condemned in legal costs to be taxed. The problem is that litigants of straw are almost always put up to petition the court.
