Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has announced, that his government will with immediate effect, appoint 150 junior officers in the public service as well as make other appointments to vacant positions.

The announcement came as he addressed the launch of Dominica Labour Party candidate for the Roseau South Constituency Chekira Lockhart-Hypolite on Sunday at Newtown.

“I have given instructions to the Chief Personnel Officer to move with the appointment of 152 junior clerks in Dominica and to fill all vacant positions in the public service with immediate effect,” Skerrit said.

Mr. Skerrit also said that on Tuesday the Cabinet will take a decision to restructure the Treasury Department to facilitate the appointment of employees.

Mr. Skerrit’s announcement is against the background of General Secretary of the Dominica Public Service Union Thomas Letang’s call to public officers last week to work on a go-slow. He also threatened industrial action if Government did not respond to the union within 11 days.

Meantime Mr. Skerrit has also announced that a reduction in income tax is on the cards for Dominica.

“In  the next Dominica Labour Party term you will see a reduction in income tax in Dominica and one flat rate,” Skerrit said.
