Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has defended Montreal Management Consultants Est. (MMCE) in light of questions emerging from the Opposition about the conditions under which the company operates in Dominica.
MMCE is responsible for the ongoing construction of several housing projects around the island.
Prime Minister Skerrit spoke in defense of the company at a town hall meeting in the Mahaut Community on Tuesday night, September 13th.
“MMC is a company that came to Dominica after Tropical Storm Erika, and offered to help us build homes for the people of Petite Savanne,” he stressed.
The Prime Minister said that MMC made its money available to purchase over 44 acres of land, provided infrastructure and signed contracts to build homes “even before we had signed an agreement with them as a Government”.
According to Mr. Skerrit, MMC began being reimbursed for their work in Dominica under the CBI Programme, one year after the company had started the Bellevue Chopin Housing project.
