Ministry Of Trade To Use Mobile App, Technology And Social Media Platform To Market Farmers Produce
The Government of Dominica through the Ministry of Trade will invest heavily in area of trade and agriculture to provide farmers with new ways of securing market for their produce through the use of technology an App and social media platforms.
The Ministry of trade recently made new improvement at the new pack houses in Long House Portsmouth for better packaging of the islands produce for shipping to its overseas markets.
Trade Minister Ian Douglas says as a result of these new improvements, the Dominica Export Import Agency DEXIA has been able to generate 1.3 million in the sale of fresh agricultural produce and valuable products particularly with the sale of plantains, Dasheen, bantams, Irish potatoes and most recently passionfruit.
Mr. Douglas says what excites him the most is a new Mobile app called the ‘Series App’ which is being developed to allow farmers to upload their produce in real time.
Douglas says all this coincides with government’s thrust of Information Technology through a loan from the World Bank to develop the Digital economy.
In addition, the trade Minister says efforts are also being made to implement and enforce the Fresh produce act to ensure the goods that are produced locally, meet regional and international market standards.
