Ministry of Education to resume CVQ programmes

Chief Education Officer Melena Fontaine says systems are being strengthened for a resumption of Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ) prgrammes in secondary schools.

Several progammes in Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) were interrupted due the destruction of facilities during the passage of Hurricane Maria.

Speaking on Education in Action on Wednesday, Fontaine said the Ministry is rebuilding these programmes.

She said Food Preparation at the Dominica Grammar School and Crop Production programme at the North East Comprehensive School would be re-instituted soon.

Fontaine said Government plans to reestablish the TVET council with a new chairman which would help facilitate the growth of the programme in schools.

The CVQ is a competency based approach to training, assessment and certification and candidates are expected to demonstrate competence in occupational standards developed by practitioners, industry experts and employers, as approved by CARICOM.
