Minister of State in the Ministry of Blue and Green Economy, Agriculture and National Food Security Gregory Riviere is condemning the murder of Chinese national, Zhang Zhaopeng who died following an altercation with some young men on Tuesday in Marigot.
The Chinese national had suffered head wounds during the incident and later succumbed to his injuries at the Dominica China Friendship Hospital.
Minister Riviere says this incident is no reflection of the people of Marigot however, he believes any act of violence is one too many.
He urges residents of Marigot to remain calm and continue to practice actions of peace and unity within the community.

Meantime, a release from the Chinese embassy states, “We are saddened by the unfortunate passing of the Chinese national Zhang Zhaopeng in Marigot. The police are now pursuing an investigation into the case. The Chinese Embassy has attached great importance to this incident as protecting the legitimate rights and personal safety of Chinese nationals is our responsibility. We request Dominican authorities to expedite the investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice in accordance with the law. We hope the Dominican government will continue to take necessary steps to protect the safety of Chinese citizens in Dominica.”
