Marigot and Roseau Fisheries Complexes to be Rehabilitated

The Government of Dominica on Wednesday signed papers for the rehabilitation of the Marigot and Roseau Fisheries Complexes to the tune of 10 million US dollars funded by the Government of Japan.

Minister for Agriculture, Food and Fisheries Reginald Austrie says the new agreement is the fulfillment of a commitment from the Government of Japan following damage caused to the facilities by Hurricane Maria.

Austrie says the rehabilitation, due to begin in January, will be done in line with climate resilience efforts, and  further extensive work is planned for Marigot.

The terms of the agreement have ensured an upgrade to climate resilient features, and complexes will sport concrete roofing, sea defense walls and hurricane windows with sun- proofing features.

the works will also include facilities for biological and chemical testing of fisheries products, as well as improved safety features which will “allow for implementation of an internationally recognized quality assurance system,” the Minister said.
