IsraAID, an international organization working in Dominica since the passage of Hurricane Maria says it has long term plans to remain here to assist with the country’s development.
Formed in 2001, IsraAID is an Israeli-based humanitarian aid agency that responds to emergency crises and engages in international development around the world.
Country Director of IsraAID Dominica, Hannah Gaventa says the organization will continue the work it has started in education and social development in Dominica.
“We’ve been working with the education system, helping to support the ministry of education in partnership with UNICEF and the East Federation as well, making sure that all the schools in the island are prepared, that all the teachers understand what to do in emergencies and the children are trained in First Aid…”
Gaventa went on to say that the training included 14 members of the youth who are now training to build resilient roofs and houses. She mentioned that the youths have already constructed 4 houses for elderly women who were living in shelters since Hurricane Maria.
