IOM Encourages Volunteerism in Disaster Management
The International Organization for Migration is promoting volunteerism during the hurricane season in efforts to build resilience on the island.
The aftermath of tropical storm Erika in 2015 and Hurricane Maria in 2017 exposed the island’s weaknesses in infrastructure and several other areas as such the IOM has invested into the island’s infrastructure building climate resilient facilities to allow the nation a fighting chance in the event of a disaster.
Communications Assistant for the IOM Maxine Alleyne-Esprit has said that, in a disaster, all available hands are necessary to ensure the survival of a community.
