Health Minister Dr. Kenneth Darroux Praise Health Practitioners Commitment & Addresses Medical Staff Concerns
Health Minister and Minister of Social Service Dr. Kenneth Darroux has applauded the staff of the princess Margaret hospital and the ministry of Health for the contained unwavering support too the sector however he is calling for more support from the staff at the PMH in helping to build Dominica health sector.
However there have been concerns by some staff at the PMH that they are not rewarded adequately for their services.
Several nurses have left Dominica after Hurricane Maria for what they claim were for greener pastures because their level of work in Dominica was not appreciated. Some persons said the pay in Dominica is much lower than what’s generally accepted overseas.
The mass migration of nurses has been of major concern of the Nurses Association in Dominica.
Dr. Darroux said he held a meeting with various staff and spoke with some members on a one on one basis and it was indicated that money was not their concern.
Dr. Darroux believes otherwise
Dr. Darroux said among the new areas discussed with the staff was the night call allowance which has been increased from $20.00 to $40.00 dollars a night alongside other benefits.
Dr Darroux also noted that many people make the situation look much greater than it is really is however he has pledged the Government commitment toward addressing staff concerns within the Ministry of Health.
