Government Extends Gun and Ammunition Amnesty to December
National Security Minister Rayburn Blackmoore has announced that government has decided to extend the gun and ammunition amnesty until December 1, 2023.
In September, Government had announced a one-month amnesty for the month of October calling on persons to deliver any illegal firearms and ammunitions to police with no fear of prosecution.
Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday, Minister Blackmoore told media of government’s decision to extend the amnesty further as a gesture of goodwill.
The minister went on to report that during the one-month amnesty, only two illegal firearms were surrendered.
Blackmoore further stated that at the end of this period, Government intends to strengthen the current firearms act in efforts to enhance Public Safety.
