Education Minister Petter Saint-Jean on Thursday announced an increase in the allowances to scholars and bursars entering secondary school.
Mr. Saint-Jean told a press conference to announce the results of the 2019 Grade Six National Assessment, that the increase is meant to help meet the cost of textbooks and school supplies.
The increases are as follows (quoted in ECD):
Scholars: Increase from $500 – $1,000 from forms 1-3
Increase from $1,000 – $1,700 from forms 4-5
Bursars: Increase form $300 – $700 from forms 1-3
Increase from $700 – $1,200 from forms 4-5
Saint Jean says there are also increases for students in 4th and 5th form and at the Dominica State College.

Annual Book and Stationary Allowance: Increase from $600 – $1,200
Transportation Allowance: Increase from $500 – $1,000
