General secretary Thomas Letang in an interview with KAIRI FM explained that the union was unable to attend the pre-budget consultation to offer recommendations to the government in the form of a proposal as done in other years.
He explained that they only received the invite a day before the consultation was held which made it rather challenging to prepare a proposal within the allotted time.
However, Letang says with hopes of bettering the working conditions of the people of Dominica, the union believes that the minimum wage which is the lowest in the eastern Caribbean other than Haiti, should be addressed.
Letang says the union also sees the need to put funds aside to assist the public officers who are first respondents in the event of a disaster.
Letang added that a provisional increase should also be put aside to accommodate the public officers.
