Aquaculture in Dominica will see significant developments soon due to a project launched by the Fisheries Division here.
Aquaculture is the rearing of aquatic plants and animals in controlled environments
Speaking on This is Agriculture on Kairi FM over the weekend, FAO Aquaculture expert Myer Avrieux highlighted the work done in building Dominica’s Aquaculture industry, specifically in the growing of Seamoss.
Avrieux says the farming of prawns is an activity that is ongoing, and construction on a hatchery for fish cultivation has begun.
Avrieux says the Fisheries Division will also focus on Aquaponics, and will work with schools to set up this initiative.
