A garage and dwelling house on Victoria Street, Newtown were gutted by fire on Sunday.
Speaking to State Radio after the fire was brought under control, property owner Reginald Burke said he suffered extensive loss.
Burke said up to 11 vehicles were destroyed.
The huge blaze also engulfed the Old Newtown School causing significant damage to the structure.
