Ensuring Proper Reconstruction Of Dominica’s Housing Sector

Architect Severin Mackenzie says now that many people are receiving compensation form their insurance companies there appears to be a challenge in the labour component in the scheme of things in getting Dominica’s housing sector back on track.

He says there is lot of material now on island but there is still uncertainty with regards to the hurricane straps that play a very critical role in stabilizing the roofs of home owners as most of the damage caused to buildings following hurricane Maria, was done to the roofs of these structures.

McKenzie says in some cases persons may have to actually reconstruct and not reroof.

He says and in that case the structure would have to be re-examined by an engineer so that the home owner does not have to return to the same old way of doing things.
