Energy Minister Says The Benefits Far Outweigh The Cost For Geothermal Energy.
The pursuit of geothermal energy as a renewable source for Dominica has seen some twenty million dollars being spent so far on that project in the Roseau valley.
According to Energy Minister Vince Henderson, some two point five million of that amount has been spent on road rehabilitation up to Laudat to facilitate the transportation of materials and for better access to the area.
Mr. Henderson says work is progressing satisfactorily and the project is well on stream to providing more than the fifteen Mega Watts of power required to supply the entire country.
He says work is continuing on the preparation of a reinjection well to reintroduce all waste back into the system to avoid any negative impact on the environment.
Mr. Henderson says the next stage of the project will be to construct the power plant which will cost some sixty to seventy million dollars.
He says in addition the project is seeking to install power lines to carry all the geothermal power from Laudat to Fond Cole’.
