ECTEL seeking to expand reach to the rest of the region
Discussions are ongoing for a single regional telecommunications regulator across the Caribbean.
The Eastern Caribbean Telecommunications Authority (ECTEL) is currently the regulatory body for telecommunications in its Member States of Dominica, Grenada, St. Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
Minister of State in the Ministry of Telecommunications and Broadcasting Oscar George says discussions have begun with an eye toward expanding the body to other countries in the region.
Minister George says, the ECTEL model established in 2000 is a viable framework which can be used as a starting point to build a regional framework.
