In keeping with efforts to keep our highways and byways free from the impediments and dangers caused by the indiscriminate disposal of derelict vehicles, the Dominica Solid Waste Management Corporation DSWMC is continuing with its nationwide cleanup campaign.
General Manager of the DSWMC Florian Mitchel says this it is even more important as we enter this independence period to ensure that all possible risks are eradicated in order to prevent traffic congestion and accidents.
Mr. Mitchel says the corporation has so far removed over forty vehicles though there are some situations in the case where they are on private lands, the owners would have the responsibility to dispose of such.
However, he says the corporation is offering to assist private owners to remove these derelict vehicles at a lesser cost.
Mitchel assures the public that the landfill at Fond Cole is open to the public after the closure to allow for some house cleaning matters and that additional space has been created in order to accommodate additional debris which is necessary with the collection of those derelict vehicles.
