Kalinago Doctor, Dermatologist Dr. Worrell Sanford has confirmed he will contest the next general elections on a United Workers Party ticket.
Dr. Sanford told Kairi News, exclusively, that he will seek to represent the Salybia Constituency in the Dominica Parliament.
Speculation has swirled in political circles over the past weeks that Sanford would be the one to take on Cozier Frederick of the Dominica Labour Party.
While the UWP has not officially announced Sanford’s candidacy he tells Kairi news he has accepted the call of the Kalinago people to contest the seat.
“I really was not looking at running, being in active politics, however the United Workers Party asked me and an increasing number of people in my are the Kalinago Area have been asking me. I could not turn my back on them, I could not say no, I could not refuse.”
Dr. Sanford is no stranger to competitive politics.
He won the Salybia seat for the Dominica Labour Party in 1990 beating the Dominica Freedom Party’s Ann Timothy; but did not serve his full term.
He was replaced in the bi-election by the UWP’s Francois Barrie ahead of the 1995 general elections.
