Jamaica’s intentions were queried by the Foreign Affairs Minister, Dr. Kenneth Darroux amidst their bid to contest Baroness Patricia Scotland.
Commonwealth members opted to re-elect Baroness Patricia Scotland as secretary-general of the 54-nation organization at Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Kigali, Rwanda, despite opposition from members such as Jamaica.
According to Dr. Darroux, CARICOM leaders decided to support Baroness Scotland, therefore Jamaica’s decision caused shockwaves throughout the region.
Dr. Darroux went on to say that this action by Jamaica only disrupted the amicable process that has worked excellently since the establishment of the organization.
