Dominican Receives Honorary Freedom of Barbados Award

Outgoing Director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) Dominican born Dr. Carissa Etienne has received the Honorary Freedom of Barbados Award for her sterling contribution in the fight against the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The Humanitarian Awards is an initiative of the Barbados government that recognizes the sacrifice made by frontline workers during the pandemic.

Dr. Etienne is one of many who were honored at Barbados’ second Humanitarian Awards Ceremony where over six thousand Barbadians were honoured by Government for their efforts to ensure the health and well-being of Barbadians at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking at the awards ceremony on Sunday Dr. Etienne humbly expressed her gratitude for the honor.

Dr. Etienne made the call to strengthen Caribbean solidarity in order to further Caribbean development.
