Dominica unlikely to support reelection of Secretary General of OAS
Dominica is unlikely to support the reelection of Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS) Luis Almagro when the vote comes up in March.
That’s the word from Foreign Affairs Minister Dr. Kenneth Darroux.
Dominica’s Government, last year, had a series of clashes with the current OAS head over his criticism of the island’s electoral process.
The election for the post of Secretary-General will be held in March 2020.
The declared contestants are the incumbent, Luis Almagro; the present Ambassador of Peru to the United States, Hugo de Zela; and Former UN General Assembly President Maria Fernanda Espinosa of Ecuador.
Espinosa was nominated jointly by Antigua and St. Vincent & the Grenadines in December 2019.
