Dominica to crack down on illegal movement of the Haitian community
Posted on June 30, 2020
The Dominica Police Force has issued a stern warning to Haitian Nationals who enter and leave Dominica’s shores illegally.
At a press conference to address the matter on Monday, Police Chief Daniel Carbon said while the Haitian community is accepted here, their presence has also brought security issues.
According to Carbon, a number of Haitians have lost their lives due to illegal travel to other islands, and he called on the immigrant community to stop illegal movement immediately.
Carbon also called on Dominicans who facilitate illegal travel to obey the law, and says the Police will take measures to address the issue, including returning undocumented Haitian nationals to their home country.
He highlighted the need to secure Dominica’s shores during the COVID 19 crisis.
