Dominica Takes Steps Toward Communication Resilience
As Dominica continues to strive toward climate resilience, the ministry of Telecommunications and Broadcasting has begun the installation of digipeaters across the island.
A Digipeater is a station that does digital repeating. Unlike analog repeaters a digipeater will receive a data packet, process it, and retransmit on the same frequency.
Minister with Responsibility for Telecommunications and Broadcasting Oscar George says with the aid of local amateur radio clubs, this will enhance emergency communications on the island.
According to Minister George, fifty individuals have been trained in emergency communications thus far, in anticipation of the upcoming works.
Minister George says he is encouraged by the project as it shows government’s commitment to ensuring communication on the island in times of distress.
