Dominica Seeking to Build Resilience Among Farmers, and Fisher Folk
Representatives from a number of government departments and NGOs met on Monday to discuss methods of building resilience among farmers, fisher folk and vulnerable persons with a view to contribute to resilient livelihoods and food security, through data digitalization and sectoral linkages.
Speaking at the opening of the consultation the UN Country Coordination’s Officer for Dominica Marlon Marie, says the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Fund which focuses on key development areas of resilient livelihoods, social protection, and food security is a transformative project which seeks to create an enabling environment and takes advantage of data and digital technologies.
Mr. Marie says most recently, adverse climatic events in Dominica, has brought to light the extent of loss which traditional agricultural communities can suffer and therefore the need for such programs to help mitigate these effects.
Participants at that consultation expressed the view that such inter organizational collaborative efforts can made a tremendous difference in assessing the needs of vulnerable groups and the communities they serve.
