Dominica Recognizes International Day Of Women And Girls In Science
Today February 11, 2022, is marked as International Day of Women and Girls in Science.
Science and gender equality are both vital for the achievement of the internationally agreed development goals, including the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Over the past decades, the global community has made efforts to inspire and engage women and girls in science. Yet women and girls continue to be excluded from participating fully in science.
In his 2022 address to mark the event, Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres says more women need to be involved in the field of science more specifically artificial intelligence.
According to the secretary General, Women are just as capable as their counterparts in the field of science and calls for an end to the trends that keep young women scientists from pursuing careers in science.
He went on to call for an environment where women can realize their true potential and today’s girls become tomorrow’s leading scientists and innovators, shaping a fair and sustainable future for all.
