The world Marks today as World Tuberculosis Day under the theme ‘Invest to End TB. Save Lives’. The day is observed to raise public awareness about the devastating health, social and economic consequences of TB, and to step up efforts to end the global TB epidemic.
This is especially critical in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic that has put the “End TB” progress at risk, and to ensure equitable access to prevention and care in line with WHO’s drive towards achieving Universal Health Coverage.
Though Dominica’s occurrence of tuberculosis has varied significantly in recent years, cases increased through the 2001 – 2020 period ending at 47 cases per one hundred thousand (100,000) people in 2020.
