Dominica observes Library Week

The Dominica Library and Information Service (DLIS) is observing Library Week 2019 from May 13 to 18 under the theme, “Libraries are for Everyone”.

Library Week is set aside by many countries yearly, to celebrate the contribution of libraries and library workers and to promote library use and support.  This year the DLIS will focus on the importance of libraries as a neutral and secure public space for all groups within the society and the library’s role in increasing social awareness.

Activities include a promotional drive on the use of the library at the Roseau branch as well as the creation of a Library Wall and Eat Fish Day Exhibition and Information Initiative. The Portsmouth library will conduct sessions on Information Retrieval & Introduction to the DLIS, Research & Study Skills and storytelling for children.

The Marigot and Grandbay branches have planned sessions in computer skills, bullying and peer pressure and financial education.

At the Documentation Center in Roseau, Open Day tours are planned as well as presentations on the Law and Business.
