Dominica has launched its emancipation celebrations ahead of Emancipation Day on August 1st.
Chief Cultural Officer Raymond Lawrence says this year’s emancipation theme is “Giving thanks, building hope and celebrating possibilities”.
Activities to mark the Emancipation Celebrations will include online classes and seminars, a thanksgiving service and an emancipation fashion week to feature cultural dress.
The festivities will end on August 1st with a bele and drumming festival.
Lawrence says Emancipation celebrations continued while other festivals were cancelled as some activities could be held virtually.
