The book Dominica Gourmet, A Unique Spin on Traditional Dominican Cuisine by author Mayma Raphael was launched here recently and has been described as a showcase to highlight Dominica’s cuisine culture.
In reference to the launch of the book; family friend Pearl Douglas says Raphael’s project reflects homage to her family and friends weaved into the pages of the publication.
Douglas described the author as an Advocate and unofficial Ambassador for Dominica in her efforts to highlight and promote things Dominican.
Meanwhile Raphael says it is heartwarming to see the level at which we have embraced our creole culture in Dominica.
She says in spite of the difficulties posed by natural disasters and other setbacks, we as a people are grounded in what has shaped us into who we are today; making us Dominica proud and Dominica strong.
According to Raphael she was inspired to begin this book project in the height of the Covid19 pandemic which had left here with a lot of time on her hands which led her to join the renaissance of Dominican cooking.
