Dominica Geothermal Energy Project

Dominica’ ambassador to the United States and Coordinator of Dominica’s Geothermal Energy Project His Excellency Dr Vince Henderson says this week has been very production in terms of Dominica geothermal energy project.

Mr Henderson says plans for the geothermal projects were well on the way prior to hurricane Maria however government and the geothermal energy team has had to return to the area in the Roseau Valley to evaluate the impact of the hurricane on the fauna and flora of the country and take into consideration the social impact on the lives of the people in making the development viable in that community without it negatively affecting the residents there.

Doctor Henderson says Government will sell power to Domlec, while Domlec will in turn sell to the consumer without a mark-up price. Government has been given a grace period of ten years by the World Bank before it starts to pay it loan on the geothermal project.

Dr Henderson says government has already put aside 9 million dollars toward the project by way of equity and will contribution over 7 million dollars to acquire more land an additional amount toward the legal services of the project.
