Dominica China Friendship Hospital Opens New Eye Care Facility
Eye patients in Dominica have greater access to quality eye care with the opening of the Brenda Strafford Foundation Eye Centre at the Dominica China Friendship Hospital on Thursday.
The Brenda Strafford Foundation owns and supports a wide range of health care services in the Caribbean. This ophthalmology clinic is another addition to four primary care medical clinics in Dominica supported by the foundation which enhance access to important health promotion and disease prevention services.
Speaking at the opening ceremony on Thursday, Senator Cassani Laville, noted this clinic is a significant step in government’s efforts to provide increased access to effective health care on the island.

Head of the Ophthalmology Department Dr. Hazel Shillingford-Ricketts says, the new facility features six examination rooms, an operating suite, as well as accommodations for the physically disabled.

Meanwhile, Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Wellness and New Health Investment Kent Edwards welcomed the facility and urged staff to handle the new equipment with care.
