Dominica joins the rest of the United Nations member states today in celebrating UN day under the theme “leave no one behind.”
UN Day has been celebrated since 1948 and marks the anniversary of the entry into force of the UN Charter in 1945. The UN’s 77th anniversary this year, comes in a time of recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic and more so emphasizes the need to reimagine education as a result of disruptions in the past two years and its cascading effects.
To commemorate the UN’s 77th milestone, and the 44 years of membership that Dominica has had with the UN, since 18 December 1978, Dominica hosted a School SDG Parade through Roseau this morning in partnership with UN representatives on the ground in Dominica.
In an address to mark the occasion, Resident Coordinator for Barbados & Eastern Caribbean, Didier Trebucq pledged the UN’s continued commitment to advocate at the highest level, for the region to access the resources needed to effectively minimize vulnerabilities, reduce debt, and accelerate progress towards the SDGs, including at COP 27.
