Discussions Of Ways To Expand Cooperation In Geothermal Energy Sector Between Dominica And Martinique

Prime Minister, Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit met with President of the Executive Council of Martinique, Mr. Serge Letchimy on Monday, January 31, to discuss ways to expand cooperation in the geothermal energy sector.

Dominica is developing a Geothermal Plant in the Roseau Valley to increase the use of renewable energy in the provision of cheaper electricity, through the responsible exploitation of the island’s geothermal resource.

Martinique is expected to send a technical team to Dominica for further discussion and observe the geothermal development thus far. Mr. Letchimy signaled his intention to make a case for a “Declaration of Intention to Cooperate‟ to the Martinique Assembly by the end of March.

Dominica’s government has dug five (5) wells as part of the exploratory process and to prepare for commercial development, with two more wells planned.

Prime Minister Skerrit was joined at the meeting by Minister for Planning, Economic Development, Climate Resilience, Sustainable Development, and Renewable Energy, Hon. Dr. Vince Henderson and Minister for Public Works and the Digital Economy, Hon.  Cassanni Laville.
