Director of the Pan American Health Organization. Has encouraged Dominicans to take the COVID-19 vaccine

Director of the Pan American Health Organization Dr. Carissa Etienne has encouraged Dominicans to take the COVID-19 vaccine when it becomes available in the region.

Dr. Etienne was the guest on the first episode of Annou Palé´on Sunday with Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit.

She said taking the vaccine could prevent further spread of the virus and possible death.

Meantime Dr. Etienne said countries in the region will have access to COVAX vaccines soon.

COVAX is one of three pillars of the Access to COVID-19 Tools Accelerator, which was launched in April by the World Health Organization (WHO), the European Commission and France in response to the pandemic.

It is aimed at providing innovative and equitable access to COVID-19 diagnostics, treatments and vaccines.

And Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit told Sunday’s programme he would be first in line to take the vaccine.
