Deputy Prime Minister of Dominica, Reginald Austrie has defended the proposed site of the international airport.
Prime Minister Skerrit last month announced that a new airport would be constructed in the Wesley/Woodfordhill area.
During his address to Parliament on Friday, Austrie said the site for the international airport in Wesley is the best location for such a facility.
“Eugenia Charles [Late Prime Minister of Dominica]… told us that that was the best site and we’re we are going to put it, Madame Speaker,” he said. “The problem we had was the cost… But we have made adequate provisions.”
Austrie also accused the opposition United Worker’s Party of being critical of various government projects geared at national development. “Anybody; Anything that seeks to assist the country… is being criticized by t he United Worker’s Party”.
Mr. Austrie also highlighted the World Bank funded Emergency Agricultural Livelihoods and Climate Resilience Project geared at reviving Agriculture in Dominica, saying the project will be a tremendous boost to the sector if executed correctly.
