50% of the Country’s Hotel Rooms available for the Carnival Season
Minister for Tourism Robert Tonge said that 50% of the country’s hotel rooms are available for the carnival season.
Tonge urged Dominicans living abroad to return home for the season to assist their families with repairs to their respective homes.
Last year the Director of Tourism Colin Piper said that Dominica’s tourism industry suffered severe damage as a result of Hurricane Maria and total losses could run to over $190-million. Following the hurricane only 27 percent of hotel rooms are open to the market which summed up to about 243 rooms.
He pointed out that the Discover Dominica Authority has made an assessment of the majority of hotel rooms on the island and recovery is going to be slow. Tonge was speaking at the official launch of Mas Domnik 2018 last week.
