$27 Million Dollars Project To Revitalize Dominica’s Fishing Industry
An EC$27 million project being funded by the Government of Japan for the rehabilitation and restoration of the buildings and equipment of both the Roseau and Marigot Fisheries Complex, aims to revitalize the industry in Dominica which were severely damaged by Hurricane Maria in September 2017.
Minister of Blue and Green Economy and National Food Security Fidel Grant led a delegation on a visit to the Roseau Fisheries Complex to obtain updates on works, timelines and improvements for the completion of the project.
For Roseau expected works include the Fisheries building, ice-making and storage, fish vending area, data processing system and other equipment.
The Marigot Fisheries Complex renovation will include rehabilitation and water-proofing work of all buildings, fishermen’s lockers and the breakwater concrete.
The project is expected to be completed by August 2022.
Meanwhile Minister of State in the Ministry of Blue and Green Economy, Senator Gregory Riviere says the fisheries processing facility will be off international standard when completed
Riviere says another interesting part of the complex is the fact that the machines can produce fish mill which will benefit fisher folks and farmers
