12 Beneficiaries Receive The Gift Of New Homes Through Government’s HRP
Twelve beneficiaries have been offered the gift of shelter, as they received keys to their new homes, through the Housing Recovery Project.
A handing over ceremony took place on Thursday for the first beneficiaries of the World Bank-funded project.
The HRP was established in February 2019 to manage the process of replacing or reconstructing houses up to 500 square feet that were completely destroyed by Hurricane Maria of 2017.
Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Roosevelt Skerrit says following Hurricane Maria he had to re-negotiate with the World Bank to increase the funding component of the HRP.
The Ministry of Housing is responsible for executing the project.
Minister of Housing Reginald Austrie.
The HRP is targeting the construction of 420 homes amounting to US$40 million. The Project’s Manager Nicholas Bruno says an additional 420 beneficiaries will receive homes over the next two years.
